Never settle for a less-than-responsible and caring facility. Unfortunately, many day care centers fail to meet this standard. Care.com compiled a checklist of indicators that point to a poor quality daycare center.

The environment does not stimulate. You want your kid to be able grow at the daycare. The environment needs to be stimulating both for cognitive and emotional development.

The caregivers are not providing emotional support. All children require love and support to grow. The growth of children can be affected if the caregivers ignore them or have a negative reaction to their behaviour.

The facility has too much children at one time. If you want your caregiver to be attentive to and supportive of your children, then they need to have the time to spend with them individually.

The center is not a safe environment. During your child’s stay, they should always be in an environment that is safe.

The center is not healthy. If your child’s center doesn’t follow good hygiene practices or allows sick children in attendance, it increases the likelihood of them becoming ill.

Curriculum lacks growth-promoting activities. A daycare facility must promote your child’s mental, physical, social, and emotional development. The facilities that do not provide this service are really just babysitting in a small room.

They don’t comply with state licensing requirements. If a facility is not in compliance with the laws of the city, state or nation, it’s not appropriate for your children.

The caregivers are not communicating well. When the caregivers, staff or management are not honest with you about any topic related to day care it’s a red flag.
